St John’s Island

Reef Walk @ St John’s Island
Hidden at one end of St John’s Island is an untouched rocky shore, home to a fascinating cast of sea creatures. They come in all colours, from the reds of the Red Egg Crab to the greens and blues of microscopic zooxanthellae living in hard corals. They thrive in the liminal zone where land meets sea. The magic unfolds at low tide, when the living reef becomes accessible to those on foot. We will tread with care to seek out various hard and soft corals, some estimated at 7,000 years old, as well as marine denizens such as sea cucumbers, anemones, sponges, crabs, reef fish, hermit crabs, eels, sea stars, shellfish, prawns and much more. Embark on this Reef Walk for a taste of ‘dry diving’ without a wetsuit.

Time
2-hour guided reef walk. Actual timing (see booking page) depends on the low tide, which usually occurs in the mornings or evenings. If you wish to engage us for a private intertidal walk for your group/class on a weekday or weekend (during suitable low tides), kindly email gloria_seow@yahoo.com to enquire.

Cost
$48 per person (Adult/Child Age 4 and above) for the guided reef walk.
Boat tickets at own cost.
As an indication, public ferry tickets (two way) are $15 (adult) and $12 (child below 12 or senior). Private boat charter (via travel agent) is estimated to cost around $20 to $25 per person depending on the number of participants, and we will opt for this only if there are no public ferries operating during our walk timing.

MTI/STB Approved Walk
We will have no more than 11 persons per guide. Our walks are held in open and uncrowded areas with plenty of fresh air. Mask wear is optional. We will conduct the tour according to the prevailing Covid-19 Safe Management Measures. Minimum 8 persons for the guided walk to proceed.

This activity is open for adults and children 4 years old and above. We cannot promise any sightings, but we know that the wildlife featured live in this habitat.

You will need to wear fully covered shoes, booties or wellington boots (no Crocs or slippers allowed), and be prepared to get your feet wet to see lots of reef life!
