Punggol Beach

Intertidal Walk @ Punggol Beach
Tucked away in the north-eastern corner of Singapore is a singular beach for spectacular sponges. Exposed at low tide, these sponges come in an explosion of colours, from orange to blue, champagne, purple and green. They cloak Punggol Beach’s rocky area and are sometimes host to Brittle Stars. Also living here in the tide pools and intertidal zone are Anemones, Snapping Shrimps, Gobies, Cowries, Toadfishes, Thunder Crabs, Flower Crabs, Purple Climber Crabs and Hermit Crabs. Stare at an area of rock long enough and you might just spot the near-invisible Onch Slug, perfectly camouflaged as it grazes on algae. Many lifeforms encrust the rocks including beds of Green-lipped Mussels, American Mussels, Worm Snails, Rock Oysters and Barnacles. Other captivating creatures dwelling amidst a riot of seagrass and seaweed include Sea Urchins, Sea Cucumbers, Ascidians, Clams, Drills, Coastal Horseshoe Crabs and more. Join us in this fun intertidal walk to seek them out!

Time: Dependent on the tides (usually mornings or evenings); exact timings for the 2-hour walk are reflected in the booking page! If you wish to engage us for a private intertidal walk for your group on a weekday or weekend (during suitable low tides), kindly email gloria_seow@yahoo.com to enquire.
