Night Walk @ Pulau Ubin
The starry skies of Pulau Ubin form the perfect setting for our night adventure as we traverse its secondary forest, mangrove and scrubland to seek out its nocturnal wildlife. The island boasts a healthy population of Greater Mousedeer, found only here and not in mainland Singapore, that emerge at dusk to feast on fallen fruits. Other mammal denizens include the Common Palm Civet, Wild Pig, as well as the elusive Leopard Cat and Oriental Small-clawed Otter. We will search for Ubin’s mangrove inhabitants like the stunning Banded Krait, Dog-faced Water Snake, Tree-Climbing Crab, mudskippers, molluscs and fishes. If luck is on our side, we could encounter snakes such as the Striped Kukri, Oriental Whip Snake and Painted Bronzeback. Under UV light, the Long-tailed Scorpion never fails to draw oohs and aahs as it fluoresces an electric blue, alongside the reds, purples, yellows and other hues given off by plants, fungi, lichens and various arthropods. Other possible cool sightings include owls, bats, frogs, geckos, nightjars, sleeping birds, and insects such as the majestic Tropical Swallowtail Moth, katydids and crickets. MTI/STB Approved Walk
Our MTI/STB approved walk will have no more than 16 persons per guide. Our walks are held in open and uncrowded areas with plenty of fresh air. Mask wear is optional. We will conduct the tour according to the prevailing Covid-19 Safe Management Measures. Minimum 8 persons for the guided walk to proceed .
This activity is open for adults and children age 4 years old and above. We cannot promise any sightings, but we know that the wildlife featured live in this habitat.
You will need to wear covered shoes and long pants, and bring one good torchlight per person (hand phone torches are too dim). We will be walking about 4 km, sometimes on uneven ground, and a certain level of fitness is required.
